Hack the Hood: Digital Marketing Doors Pilot kicks off this month; seeking marketing tech internships for January 2015
This fall, Hack the Hood is piloting an exciting new program, Digital Marketing Doors, which trains Boot Camp 1.0 graduates ages 18-25 in marketing and advertising tech skills, providing them hands-on real work experience creating digital marketing campaigns for clients, placing them in local marketing agencies, corporations, and tech companies for part-time paid internships.
The goal of Digital Marketing Doors is to empower Hack the Hood’s youth who want to work in tech to learn marketable skills that are in high demand while gaining real world experiences to add to their resume. Our goal for youth who complete this program is to be equipped with the tools necessary to land higher paying part-time, contract or full-time employment in technology marketing.
As part of the program, young people receive 40 hours of training in technology marketing, work with professionals as mentors and instructors, and take part in peer coaching, mentoring and support. After the program is complete, Hack the Hood will support graduates in job placement and offer ongoing coaching and support to help graduates navigate both the workplace and planning for future training.
We’ve been fortunate enough to have an extraordinary team put together this curriculum, including volunteers from the Google Ad Words Global Strategy team, Hack the Hood Advisory Council member Patty Mitchell, former President of the Consumer Media Division at Move.com, Hack the Hood staffer and Mills College graduate student Rose DeLeon-Foote. Chief Education Officer Zakiya Harris and Youth Manager Daisha MShaka have done a great job recruiting and prepping our A-team youth cohort, and everyone is excited to jump in!
However, we’re still looking for some January placements for DMD participants—if you work in tech marketing, Adwords or other campaigns and would like to get more information about working with a Hack the Hood youth—or have some agency/client contacts who might like to hear more—please get in touch with Patty Mitchell at firstname.lastname@example.org.
