Our Mission: Hack the Hood provides real-world, hands-on learning opportunities and mentorship that help low-income youth of color learn the skills and form the relationships they need to chart a course towards 21st century careers in online technology and social media.
Our Programs: We have two core programs: In our 6-week bootcamps, youth develop professional skills and career awareness, as well as receive training in basic computer skills, web marketing and promotion, and website development, which they then use to build mobile-responsive websites for small business clients. After bootcamp, youth join our membership program and move toward personalized education and career goals through career coaching, case management, tech and skills-building workshops, and field trips. We help youth learn about, apply for, and stay engaged in tech industry skills programs, internships and apprenticeships, entrepreneurial projects, college classes, dev bootcamp programs, and better-paying jobs.
Our Development/Communications: Hack the Hood has a strong brand and a growing community of support. We have a new website, over 12,000 facebook followers, 6,700 Twitter followers, over 400 individual donors and an incredible list of funders. We currently draw most of our support from grants, which are currently written by the COO and CEO. We have actively been building our infrastructure, including a customized Salesforce database, Classy, and MailChimp accounts. COO has a Marketing and Development background and can be a team member or collaborator as appropriate.
Job Summary: The Development Director will be responsible for picking up and building on the strong foundation already in place. The successful candidate will be expected to start as a one-person department with strong support and participation from leadership and other team members. We expect this department to continue to grow.
