About Hack the Hood
Hack the Hood helps low-income youth of color learn 21st century skills and launch tech careers through real-world project-based learning. During our 6-week bootcamp, youth get on-the-job training to build free mobile-friendly websites for actual clients who are small, local, and/or minority owned businesses. This helps low-income youth of color to learn the skills and form the relationships they need to chart a course towards 21st century careers in online technology and social media, while at the same time helping minority-owned businesses in their neighborhoods reach new customers and increase profits. Hack the Hood was a 2014 winner of the Bay Area Google Impact Challenge.
Function of Job
The Grant Writer will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer, CEO and program leads to identify, track, write, and report on grants and grant opportunities to drive our work. Grants and contracts make up about 90% of our revenue, and the Grant Writer will be working with a team responsible for drawing in approximately $1.5 Million in revenue annually. This will involve adapting existing template materials, as well as drafting original narratives as new projects arise. The successful candidate will also assist with grant prospecting and research and grant reporting and work with the COO and Director of Finance and Operations on grant budgets.

The winning candidate will be both strategic and implementation oriented, an excellent communicator and collaborator, and demonstrate a strong interest in technology and passion for equity, inclusion, and opportunity. Understanding of the technology ecosystem and interest in the future of work are a plus.

Compensation in the $55-60K range depending on experience, plus benefits.
