Tech Futures Fundraiser

Technology training for Bay Area youth of color is a strategic investment that has the potential to transform lives and contribute to our community's overall growth and prosperity. The tech industry is a major driver of economic growth and job creation in our region. By offering robust tech-skill building and career pathway programs, Hack the Hood youth can tap into a wide range of STEM career opportunities, which often offer higher earning potential and job stability, from software development and data science to engineering and web development. By encouraging youth from underrepresented backgrounds to pursue technology careers, we can work toward creating a more inclusive and representative tech workforce.

Help us reach our goal of $20,000 by December 31st!

Established in 2013, Hack the Hood is on a mission to empower early-career Black, Latinx, AAPI, and Indigenous youth through programs that cultivate data and tech skills while providing essential career guidance grounded in principles of racial justice. Our aim is to foster economic development and growth while addressing the pressing need for equity in the tech industry.

Over the past decade, thanks to your invaluable partnership, Hack the Hood has made a profound impact on Oakland and the broader Bay Area:

  • We have successfully trained and empowered over 1,500 youth of color, equipping them with sought-after digital skills.

  • Our programs have opened doors to numerous careers in the tech industry, breaking the cycle of generational poverty for many of our learners.

  • We've continuously piloted, adapted, and expanded our tech skill-building and career pathway initiatives to align with the ever-evolving demands of the technology workforce, ensuring that our youth are well-prepared for opportunities in the tech sector.

Despite the significant progress we've made, the demand for our services continues to grow. Income inequality is widening across the Bay Area, and racial equity gaps persist in the tech industry. That's why your support is more crucial than ever.

As we set our sights on the future, we humbly request your continued support to empower Black, Latinx, AAPI, and Indigenous youth for many more years to come. Our current goal is to raise $20,000 by December 31st. Your contributions will help us advance our mission and bridge the gaps in access, opportunity, and representation in the tech world.

With your generosity, we can continue to make a lasting impact and create a more equitable tech landscape for underrepresented youth. Your support is the cornerstone of our mission's success.

Thank you for standing with us in this critical endeavor.

$50
Hands-On Learning

Youth of color have very limited exposure to tech instruction, contributing to the significant racial disparities in STEM careers. Hack the Hood provides free programming to our learners, with an average of 180 hours of instruction. $50 provides one day of programming and gets a learner one step closer to a career in tech.

$150
Laptops for Learners

To close the digital divide and ensure equitable access to our programs, Hack the Hood provides a laptop to any learner that needs one. $150 helps to offset the cost of a laptop for one learner.

$250
Classroom Support

Central to our programs is Hack the Hood’s Tech for Justice curriculum which helps learners to see themselves in tech. $250 provides eight hours of individualized support from a TA, who is also a person of color.

$500
Stipends for Learners

Hack the Hood’s programs are offered at no cost to learners. In fact, we recognize the importance of eliminating as many barriers as possible. $500 provides one learner with a stipend for completing our 12-week Hustle or Build program. $1,000 supports two learners!
