Hack the Hood project
Term of contract: March 15, 2018 - August 15, 2018
Compensation: $15K - $18K, negotiable
Location: OAKLAND, CA,

The Evaluator will work closely with the Chief Innovation Officer, Hack the Hood (HTH) staff and a team of consultants to coordinate and oversee the evaluation strategy of an online video "mentor matrix" library that can be used in the context of relationship-based career coaching to enhance youth knowledge about tech careers and confidence in pursuing them. This career exploration tool will lift up the successes of professionals of color for youth to see. This is a new way to engage industry in the training and mentoring of a more inclusive future workforce. The video library will be part of a larger toolkit, that includes an online curriculum, research report and white paper. The finalized toolkit will be published online and shared with the wider field of workforce development agencies, community based organizations and tech companies.

Goals for the first 90 days:
  • Create evaluation strategy + tools
  • Manage evaluation timeline for project
  • Provide weekly updates to the Chief Innovation Officer and flag when any part of the timeline is getting off track.
  • Develop design and presentation ideas based on design research and youth inputs
  • Facilitation of 4 focus groups during project.  

Major Responsibilities:
  • Ability to design or create a means to gather, analyze and report evaluative information, both quantitative and qualitative,
  • Ability to lead others in the process of developing comprehensive evaluation and monitoring plan based on project outcomes
  • Ability to determine and implement long range plans or schedules for data collection and analysis for the purpose of preparing reports on program outcomes and impact assessment.
  • Completion of all evaluation deliverables including (4 focus groups, white paper, and research report.
  • Escalate matters to Chief Innovation Officer if the timeline is off track or deliverables for the project are not being met, or if there are any other barriers to meeting project deadlines.
  • Work with other project staff in meeting the overall goals of the project
  • Submit all required reports in a timely manner
  • Attend weekly, monthly and quarterly project meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Completion of coursework for a four-year college degree in statistics, research methodology, computer science, and/or other coursework directly related to the work to be performed
  • At least two years of progressively responsible experience in gathering, editing, and analyzing data for social, educational and/or economic research, preferably including experience in in youth development, workforce development and or technology
  • Can work independently and as part of a team
  • Self-motivation and adaptability
  • Ability to prioritise workload efficiently and manage multiple projects
  • Can work effectively under pressure, react quickly and meet tight deadlines
  • Good writing and communication skills
  • Alignment with Hack the Hood's mission and values
  • Strong personal integrity, maturity, credibility
  • Patience
  • Experience working within communities of color and youth
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback
