Support young people to unlock their tech genius by sharing your time & talent with our learners and alumni.
Hack the Hood’s learners benefit from our collaboration with tech sector leaders who share our vision of a more inclusive and just tech sector. You can make a difference in the lives of our learners by dedicating your time & talent as a Hack the Hood volunteer. Our aim is to connect learners to individuals in the tech sector that will guide them and help them along their journey.
Here are our current volunteer opportunities between May 2023 - May 2024
Learners will be participating in a 12 month pilot career pathway program in partnership with Laney Community College supporting them in obtaining their Associate's Degree and/or certificate in Computer Information Systems.
Learners will receive an initial 12-week data science bootcamp with Hack the Hood, assistance in enrolling and matriculating in Laney Community College, mentorship support, the opportunity to discuss the social justice aspects of technology, career exposure programming, and financial incentives supporting their participation in the program
Must have technical work experience in tech industry
Able to commit two hours a month from May 2023 to May 2024
1 hour face- time contact (virtual or in person)
1 hour of remote check in and support (i.e. phone call, email, etc)
Willingness to be open, vulnerable and relatable to young, BIPOC learners interested in pursuing a career in tech
Share your career journey with our learners! Volunteers should be available for 1.5 hrs on a Monday from 10-1pm or 3-6pm PST. No technical experience required to participate.

Our learners are Black, Latino/a, AAPI, and Indigenous youth with intensive training in the fundamentals of data science, javascript, ServiceNow, and web development.
Coming from a wide range of experience levels, education, and backgrounds, our learners bring innovative ideas, energy, and perspective to the ever-changing tech industry. Our learners are eager to learn and contribute to roles in Software Engineering, Business Systems Analysis, Data Science, Digital Marketing, and more.
