Hack The Hood Partners with Admit to Support Drive Learners
Hack The Hood is excited to announce a new partnership with Admit for our Drive program in partnership with Laney Community College.
Drive is a 12-month college and career program delivered in partnership with Laney College. The program combines technical learning, college coursework, career development, mentorship, and a community of support to help learners complete a Certificate of Achievement in Data Science and continue building toward careers in technology.
Building With Young People
This partnership with Admit builds on a relationship that began with Hack The Hood learners. themselves. In Summer 2024, Hack The Hood learners participated in an early pilot with Admit focused on understanding how young people navigate college, careers, scholarships, internships, and the transition after high school.
Their experiences and feedback helped shape Admit’s design, language, and core features. The collaboration was an important reminder of the value of designing technology with young people and incorporating their perspectives into the tools intended to support them.
The response from learners was encouraging: 92% of participating students rated Admit a 4 or 5 out of 5 as a useful tool for preparing for life after high school.
One student shared:
“This app would be a great help throughout the process of finding the right schools, finding scholarships, improving myself, and staying on track.”
Another student reflected:
“If this was available to me fresh out of high school, it would’ve made things much easier.”
That early feedback helped move Admit from an early concept toward the platform it is today. Bringing this partnership into Drive represents a natural next step in a relationship shaped by learner voice and collaboration.
Supporting the Drive Journey
Learners in our current Drive cohort will use Admit alongside Hack the Hood’s existing mentorship, career development, technical education, and additional resources to support them on their educational journey.
Admit will give learners an additional tool to help them:
Set and track personal and career goals
Stay organized around program and educational milestones
Discover scholarships, internships, and other opportunities
Identify and manage next steps along their career pathway
Access personalized guidance throughout the program year
For Hack The Hood, the value of this partnership is not about adding another technology platform. It is about strengthening the ecosystem of support around our learners and leveraging a tool they had a hand in building..
Drive is built around a clear pathway, helping learners develop technical skills, persist through college, build professional networks, and move toward meaningful opportunities in tech. Learners receive mentorship, career development workshops, dedicated support, and the opportunity to learn alongside a cohort of peers pursuing similar goals.

Admit will become one more resource within that community of support, helping learners organize their goals and opportunities while they build the skills, confidence, and connections needed to move forward.
